It is deep winter. The darkness is unending.

The private detective named Jaycob Eklund has vanished, and Charlie Parker is dispatched to track him down. Parker's employer, Edgar Ross, an agent of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, has his own reasons for wanting Eklund found.

Eklund is no ordinary investigator. He is obsessively tracking a series of homicides and disappearances, each linked to reports of hauntings. Now Parker will be drawn into Eklund's world, a realm in which the monstrous Mother rules a crumbling criminal empire, in which men strike bargains with angels, and in which the innocent and guilty alike are pawns in a game of ghosts . . .

Fans of the author’s previous works including, Wayward Pines, will know that in the world of Blake Crouch nothing is ever what it seems. Dark Matter follows Jason Dessen on a mind bending thrill ride of an adventure where everything he thought he knew is turned upside down. Part thriller, part science fiction part love story, this book grips from the first page and doesn’t let up until the very end.

Although the story does require some suspension of disbelief, the real strength of Crouch’s book is the way he grounds the story in the strength of family and the lengths one man will go to save them.

Brilliant.
